2023: Political Parties Signed Peace Accord in Jigawa

The Jigawa state police command has organized a peace signing accord with the gubernatorial and senatorial candidates of twelve (12) registered political parties in the state.
The state's commissioner of police CP. Emmanuel Ekot Effiom said on Thursday that the signing of the peace accord was directed by the inspector general of police, IGP. Usman Alkali Baba.
The CP. reiterated his commitment to ensuring a hitch-free campaign/rallies and a secure environment for free, fair, credible, and violence-free elections.
He extended his appreciation for their positive response in answering the command's call to this important gathering, despite their tight schedules.
The CP further urged the political parties to support and work closely with the police and other security agencies, he also requested that each political party should draw up itineraries for campaigns and submit same to police for necessary security actions and reduce the incidences of having two (2) political parties in the same location at the same time.
The commissioner of police, charged all politicians especially candidates/contestants, their media aids, and vote canvassers in the upcoming 2023 general elections to shun incense and inciting statements, vandalization of opposition parties' properties (banners, posters, and bill boards etc.) thuggery, personal attacks, spreading of fake news and be committed to issue based campaigns and avoid hate speeches during political rallies, while being guided by extent laws and rules governing their activities.
He further stated that, the use of weapons such as; cutlasses, sticks, now and arrows, guns, machetes, Jack knives and other dangerous weapons during electioneering campaigns and elections is still enforced.
The CP. said any person found wanting in this regard will be sanctioned accordingly, therefore he advised party executives to organize training sessions for their members and educate them on electoral acts and rule engagement as specified in the 2022 Electoral Acts as amended and other extent laws.
Managarciya report that, the occasion was graced by security chiefs, INEC resident electoral commissioner Jigawa state, representatives of groups, traditional institutions, members of the command's management team, among others.
After a successful deliberation, and interpretation of peace accord context, the occasion came to an end with the signing of peace accord by gubernatorial and senatorial candidates respectively.
