1 Billion Cars For Sokoto Governor: Waste Of Resources And Indication Of Directionless Government

At a time when the country is suffering from economic meltdown and ravaging poverty that affects 90% of Nigerians the Sokoto State Executive council approved the purchase of 1.1250 Billion official cars in the Governor office.
In a state that is infected by many problems that add scorching poverty, the government should not go into spree spending that will not add value for the people.
A study in 2022 showed that Sokoto and Bayelsa states have the highest poverty record. Poverty continues to increase as bandits prevent the people from farming until ransom is paid.
Bad roads, unhealthy and unhygienic health centres, unprofessional and shambles healthcare and lack of professional educational facilities are also parts of Sokoto State retrogressive condition.
Lack of accessible roads add to the poverty level in the state and farming which is one of the revenue engines of the state needs more attention.

Some governors promised to continue using their successors’ cars because they want to cut down cost for the love of the people and their states; Kaduna state governor, Malam Uba Sani is a good example of the governors that thinks the money for cars can be used to solve the problem of the people.
The Sokoto State governor should have a second thought about buying new cars and spending money for the course of the people. Sokoto state is facing numerous challenges and if the state governor; Ahmad Aliyu, is empathetic about the people he will not go for his luxury and shun the necessary demands of the people.
Recently, the Governor spent N20. 3 billion for 20 Toyota Camry for only women when the state is still plunging into more chaotic problems of banditry. And, the state Governor has never paid ransom for the community to get freedom of farming.
